Cubs Fall to Mets 5-2; Gorzo Loses No-No in Fifth, Then Loses Game
Chris McGrath/Getty Images
For a while, it looked like Tom Gorzelanny — the geekiest-looking Cubs pitcher since Paul Reuschel — might outduel all-universe hurler Johan Santana. Hell, the Mets didn't have a hit until the fifth inning. Alas, then the Mets scored four in the sixth (two earned) and one in the eighth, and that was that in a 5-2 loss. Once again, the Cubs couldn't come up with the timely hit and stranded 10 men on base. End result: Cubs lose three of four to the not-very-good Mets.

The Big Z Bullpen Move: The Debate Rages Ever Onward So the results are in, and many are not feeling positive about the Zambrano switcheroo. A small sample: When it first went down, the Trib's Paul Rogers said "this move could blow up on so many fronts that I almost don't know where to start." Wax Paper Beer Cup dubbed it "one of the dumbest moves ever made by this franchise," and Fox Sports' Ken Rosenthal called it "desperate" and "impulsive." Yahoo Sports goes even bigger picture and says the move typifies why Tom Ricketts should jettison Jim Hendry.

The Big Z Bullpen Move: But Wait, There's More... Some aluminum-helmet wearing conspiracy theorists believe Piniella is moving Zambrano to the bullpen to either a) punish Hendry for providing a crappy relief corps, or b) try to get Big Z to waive his no-trade clause. But the Trib reports that Hendry was in on the decision, so it couldn't have been an effort to zing him. Ok, but what about the Freemasons? They really do control everything via a shadow government, you know...

Everyone's Favorite Ballpark Goes Under the Microscope
Is it just us, or do you get a little nervous when someone "objectively" reviews the Friendly Confines? It's like someone critiquing your child. "Well, she's cute, but her eyes are a little close together..." We won't give away the ending, but let's just say this reviewer doesn't dislike Wrigley. Then again, who could?

What's Your Sign? Not 'Toyota,' Warn Conservation Group Rooftop Owners
So the Cubs want to put a Toyota sign in left field. Some people are up in arms, but it seems most fans don't care. There is one group who cares, though, and that's the group that's put up the site ChicagoLandmarksMatter.com. Sounds honorable, right? They seem to want to preserve Chicago landmarks. But wait... if you look a little closer, you'll see the website was actually created by the Wrigleyville Rooftop Association. Hmmm. Oh well, the video is kind of funny.

Today's Report by Joel Reese

"Enough with the hand-wringing over the Zambrano move. This is probably temporary. And if it is permanent, it's only because the rest of the rotation is pitching out of their minds."

Sure, listening to Ron Santo can be painful sometimes — but we still love the guy. Nobody lives and dies with the Cubs like Ronnie. Support Ron by donating to JDRF or participating in his Walk to Cure Diabetes.

Can the Cubs repeat their success against the Brewers, who scored 20 runs yesterday? Yikes.
