Broom Broom Broom, Let's Go Back to My Room

Not only did the Cubs sweep the Brewers in Milwaukee, they outscored them 25-4 over three games. How did the Cubs produce this souffle of awesomeness? In yesterday's 12-2 win, they started with four homers (Soto, Lee, Colvin, Fukudome), tossed in a sprinkle of five Theriot hits, and added a soupcon of 7 strong innings from Wells. Voila! We're not quite sure where this fire came from. Maybe the team took a hint from the Blackhawks. Or maybe they got some advice from Milwaukee's two most famous denizens.

Big Z to the Bullpen: It Just Might Be Crazy Enough to Work We've seen a lot of venom about moving Zambrano to the bullpen. It was called "desperate," "impulsive," and "one of the dumbest moves ever made by this franchise." But there are some good pro-bullpen arguments out there, too. For starters, here are the ERAs for the Cubs' starters: Dempster, 2.60. Wells, 2.49. Gorzelanny, 2.40. Silva, 0.95. Lilly, 0.00. And think of how much better they'd be doing this year if they had a stud set-up man. Lastly, the Cubs are 4-1 since the move. Just sayin'.

Agony & Ivy: It's better than making him the left fielder

A Silva Lining: Can Carlos Keep up His Hot Start? What's the best surprise so far this season? Carlos Marmol seems to be a legit closer? Marvelous Marlon Byrd's greatness? The deliciousness of the bison dogs at Wrigley? We're going with the greatness of tonight's starter, Carlos Silva, who the Cubs got in return for a certain player whose name escapes us. (Alright, it was Milton Bradley.) Silva is 2-0 with an ERA below 1.00. Alas, Jeff Passan at Yahoo Sports says Silva probably can't keep it up. Here's hoping he's wrong.
Yahoo: Early standouts are often fools gold

Guerilla Radio: WGN Host Takes on "Caller Chuck." Mayhem Ensues.
We love sports-talk radio, but we know there's a lot of, "First-time caller...," "I'll hang up and listen...," and "You're a jerk!"/"No, you're a jerk!" But sometimes, you'll get some serious gold. For instance, take this call to the normally calm WGN hombre Dave Kaplan, who'd taken Alfonso Soriano to task for jogging out of the batter's box. Caller Chuck didn't appreciate it. They went at it, and a listener then put the exchange on video. With puppets. The best part: When Kaplan lets his true feelings about Soriano show: "That guy is a dog!" Nice.

Young Studs Bring Hope to Cubs Future (Maybe) We can't understand why the Cubs have such a hard time producing studs out of the farm system. It's been a long drought since they nabbed Mark Grace in the 24th round of the 1985 draft. But the team has some solid prospects these days, including Starlin Castro, Brett Jackson, and others. So periodically, we'll take a look at the minors and see if any stars are on the horizon. So far, Castro is tearing it up, and Andrew Cashner is looking like straight cash, homey.

Sure, listening to Ron Santo can be painful sometimes — but we still love the guy. Nobody lives and dies with the Cubs like Ronnie. Support Ron by donating to JDRF or participating in his Walk to Cure Diabetes.
