Who's Sori Now?: Left Fielder Clubs Two-Run Homer, Cubs Win 7-5

We'll admit: When the Cubs went down 5-2, we thought they were headed for another loss. But then Soriano tied it with a homer off ancient Bobby Howry (what, Goose Gossage wasn't available?), and Derrek Lee won it with a bases-loaded single in the eighth. But we're a little worried about Carlos Silva — he gave up five runs in five innings and looked notably less awesome than at the start of the season. Carlos Marmol did his best Mitch Williams and loaded the bases in the ninth, but he escaped with the save. In the end, a win's a win.

Could the Cubs' Outfield Be the Best in MLB? No, Seriously. Could It? Given the Cubs' sub-.500 record, you'd think it would be nigh impossible to define anything the team is doing as "best in the majors." You'd be wrong. The outfield is actually the best offensive crew in baseball, according to an analysis by Talking Chicago Baseball. Soriano, Byrd, and Fukudome are first in average (.321), second in OBP (.385), and first in slugging (.589). Also, they lead the league in home runs with 16. The Sun-Times theorizes it's because Soriano and Fukudome are finally healthy and confident. Whatever the reason, we'll take it.

Closer to the Heart: Will Big Z Go for the Save on Sunday? If the Cubs have a chance to win Sunday, Big Z could come in as the closer. Wow. So sayeth Bruce Levine toward the end of his Cubs blog. We guess it makes sense — Carlos Marmol has appeared two days in a row, and he threw 35 pitches yesterday. Lou could go with John Grabow or Sean Marshall, but do either of those guys instill much fear in opposing batters? We'll be watching.

Starlin Gazing: Why the Cubs Should NOT Bring up Castro to the Majors
Maybe you're one of those Cubs fans who's fallen in love with Starlin Castro, the shortstop phenom who's currently tearing up the minor leagues. But a surprising source makes a strong argument for keeping Theriot at short and letting Castro get more seasoning. That source: Redbird Rants, a St. Louis Cardinals blog. They note that Theriot is batting .337, is second in the majors in hits, and has an 11-game hitting streak going. Duly noted.

Wave, Goodbye: Why Is Doing 'The Wave' Taboo at Wrigley? "Wrigley Field should be above doing The Wave." We hear this sentiment all the time — from our friends, at Bleed Cubbie Blue, in today's rant, and so on. Our question is: Why? After all, we have our quirky traditions, too. We throw the ball back after the other team goes yard. The denizens of the left-field bleachers chant, "Right field sucks!" (And vice-versa.) We euphorically sing "Go Cubs Go" after a win. So why is The Wave different? OK, it's a little old. But is it really because we didn't start it? Because other stadiums do it? Give us your theories on our Facebook page.

"Great comeback by the Cubs on Saturday, but my heart sank when I saw 'The Wave' at Wrigley... is nothing sacred?"
