"E" Is Not for Excellent
Cubs Make 3 Errors in Crushing 5-4 Loss

Some say three is the magic number. It wasn't yesterday, as the Cubs committed a trio of miscues that led to the Brewers' 5-4 win in ten innings. The guilty parties were Chad Tracy, Starlin Castro, and Xavier Nady. The game ended on a walk-off bunt — a walk-off bunt! — in the 10th inning. Speedy Brewer Carlos Gomez was on first, then was bunted over. But he kept sprinting to third, and scored easily when Nady's throw sailed above where Manute Bol could have caught it. The error overshadowed Nady's three RBIs and left Bobby Howry with the loss.

Mutiny in the Dugout?
Some Say There's Trouble in Clubhouse. Some Disagree. Uh-oh. Looks like there may be some issues brewing within the Cubs' clubhouse. Aramis Ramirez and Carlos Zambrano have separated themselves from the rest of the team and are not playing nice, according to Bleed Cubbie Blue. The blog's source says Ramirez has essentially shut it down for the season: "[He] refuses to practice, and is barely willing to take the field for games," the source says. But the Daily Herald's Bruce Miles directly contradicts this in the comments of his blog, saying, "It's never fun after losses, but it's not a 'bad' clubhouse by any stretch."

10 Reasons to Tune In
Bad Blood + Bad Baseball = Good Times The White Sox are driving their El Camino to Wrigley Field today, and this could be a compelling series despite the teams' combined 53-66 record. Bruce Miles has 10 reasons you should watch, including: Starlin Castro, who "made several highlight-reel plays in Milwaukee"; Andrew Cashner and his 98-mph fastball; and Ozzie Guillen, to see if he'll have another meltdown. We'd add: A.J. Pierzynski, to see if he tries to get revenge for getting all punchified a few years back; and Lou Piniella, to check out whether his beard has reached Men Who Look Like Kenny Rogers-level quality yet.

The C-Team
Chicago's All-City Squad Not Exactly the '27 Yanks
With the Crosstown Classic upon us, we can confidently say the Trib's theoretical All-City team wouldn't set any MLB records. Of the 19 possible positions (including manager and bench), the Cubs have 11, including Sean Marshall, Carlos Marmol, Geovany Soto, and surprisingly, Mike Fontenot. But that list also includes former Cub Casey McGehee, who the team released in 2008 and is now among the league leaders in RBIs for the Brewers. Oh ho ho, that's so funny, Tribune! You slay us!

The Err of His Ways
The Worst Day in the Life of Jim Joyce
Man does not live by Cubs news alone. So every now and then, we'll run a story that's worth reading on its own. Maybe it's about the Cubs, maybe not. Maybe it's about sports, maybe not. In today's Good Read, the Detroit Free Press looks at Jim Joyce and how his life was changed by that one simple "Safe!" call, which ruined what would have been a perfect game by Tigers' pitcher Armando Galarraga. We kind of feel sorry for Joyce. Kind of.

Ron Santo felt ill before yesterday's Brewers game and headed home. Unlike last week in Pittsburgh, he wasn't hospitalized. Get well soon, Ronnie!... The Toyota sign is officially part of Wrigley Field... The quality? Terrible. The humor? Sub-infantile. But we can't resist a video that features the scrawled words, "Danks [hearts] Boogers"...
