Pierre's Swim Move Gives White Sox 2-1 Edge
Dennis Wierzbicki/US PRESSWIRE
So let's figure this one out. How did the Cubs lose this game? Well, you can't blame Carlos Silva, who gave up a reasonable two runs over seven innings. The bullpen did its job, and Andrew Cashner again proved to be money in the bank. We're thinking it's the team's offense, which struck out 11 times, drew only one walk, and left 10 men on-base. The game's crucial moment came in the seventh inning, when Juan Pierre looked to be thrown out at second on a steal. Replays showed rookie Starlin Castro missed the tag even though the ball was there in plenty of time. Pierre wound up scoring what would become the winning run. We'd be angry, but we just don't have the energy.

Ch-ch-ch-changes
Do the Cubs Need a Front Office Facelift? Everyone's looking for someone to blame this year. And now, an increasing number of fingers are being pointed at the man who put the team together, Cubs GM Jim Hendry. Some are questioning whether Hendry needs to go for the Cubs to start winning. The Trib thinks the Cubs should look at the Hawks and the decisions that made them into a winner. Hey, you can't argue with the results. Meanwhile, Talking Chicago Baseball thinks Hendry should take a page from the Sox's book and pull his own white flag trade.

Crowd Control
Who Are the Cubs New Draftees? It's tough to stay up on all the players the Cubs picked in the draft last week — there were 50 overall. Thanks to the experts at Minor League Ball, you can check out the Cliff Notes version and get a quick idea of how the team did, who they took, and who to keep an eye on in the future. Overall, it looks like the Cubs have some potential big leaguers, but the people in the know seem to think the team took some guys way higher than they were slotted to go. So will this be the draft class that finally produces a superstar position player? Doesn't look likely.

Trading Places
Will Mediocrity Make the Cubs Wheel and Deal?
The Cubs have the most expensive roster in the National League, and yet... well, the results speak for themselves. So it seems likely the team will swap out its spare parts before the July 31 trading deadline. Who could go? Anyone, the Sun-Times theorizes — well, except the "untradeable" Alfonso Soriano (grrrrr). The paper also says Kosuke Fukudome is a likely candidate, as he's "into his third consecutive post-Preakness fade and could be holding back a bigger opportunity for Tyler Colvin." Cubbies Crib says Ted Lilly could draw some serious interest from the Yankees and Dodgers, among other teams.

Kicking it with the Cup
Blackhawks to Bring Storied Stanley Cup to Wrigley
The Chicago Blackhawks were the Chicago Cubs of the NHL (i.e., the non-championship-winning sad sack) until they won the Stanley Cup last week. Now it's time for worlds to collide as the Blackhawks bring the Stanley Cup to Wrigley Field on Sunday. Hopefully the karma or curse-breaking or championship fever or whatever it is that worked for the Hawks will rub off on the Cubs. The North Siders could use some magic after losing the first two games to their South Side rivals, and being pretty much lousy overall.
