Angels' Hurler Throws Two-Hitter, Cubs Lose 12-0
Jonathan Daniel/Getty Images
What can we say? The Cubs had as many errors as hits (two) and lost 12-0 to the Angels in a laugher at Wrigley Field. So much for Ted Lilly's momentum after his near no-hitter against the White Sox — he gave up a home run on his fourth pitch yesterday. The team's an unimpressive 30-38, the offense continues to be brutal, and the defense seems to be getting worse. We keep waiting for something to spark this team, but we're getting nothing. As for the good news, well.... the weather was nice.

Piniella is Baffled by Team's Play
To be honest, we kinda feel for manager Lou Piniella. After yesterday's loss, he expressed his frustration with the team and the media. "What am I supposed to do — yell and scream?" Piniella vented. Well, it worked three years ago so why not try that again? He also noted the wind was blowing out and the Cubs managed only two hits. When Lou says he's tried everything he can, it makes us wonder if he's given up hope. And to be honest, can you blame him?

Colvin Hopes to Join Ranks of Quiet Superstars
There's been a lot of controversy surrounding Tyler Colvin's playing time lately, but we haven't heard much from Colvin himself. And he intends to keep it that way. In this profile from SB Nation Chicago, Colvin comes off as a rookie who knows his place, says all the right things, and has clearly memorized Kevin Costner's cliches speech from "Bull Durham." If he keeps playing this way, he could join Ryno and Billy Williams as other Cub greats who lead with their bat instead of their mouth. As Colvin put it, "It's a team game." Well said, Tyler.

Iowa Cubs Players You'll be Seeing Soon
Yesterday's Iowa Cubs game featured some players who could be at Wrigley Field soon — especially if the Cubs throw up the white flag and start making trades. Thomas Diamond had another great start, Jeff Samardzija (remember him?) added four scoreless innings of relief, and lefty John "Don't call me Grabow" Gaub pitched two perfect innings. The Triple-A team got 10 hits, made no errors, and beat the Albuquerque Isotopes (not the Springfield Isotopes) 3-2 in 14 innings. Would anyone really mind if the Iowa team and the North Side team switched places? We're kidding. Mostly.

Is Team Following in Dubious Footsteps?
SB Nation takes a frightening look at the state of the Cubs by flashing back to Wrigley Field circa 1960: The Cubs were brutal, and the stadium was just about empty. "Well, that was then — Wrigley Field will always draw," you undoubtedly think. But look at the Baltimore Orioles, one of the top teams of that era. They play in the classic Camden Yards, but still can't draw flies. "The Cubs must build a winning baseball organization from the ground up, and contend and make the postseason on a consistent basis, or they risk again becoming an afterthought in Chicago sports," the blog warns. Yikes.
