You'd Better Watch Out
Reasons to Keep Tuning in to Cubs Games

This season hasn't been what we call "pretty." Or "fun." Or "Enjoyable." Or... well, you get the idea. But CSN Chicago has several reasons to keep watching the games, including: Who's going to start for the rest of the season? Tom Gorzelanny's hand may be injured from Wednesday night's scary line drive, and Carlos Silva got rocked in the minors... so who's next? And will Starlin Castro actually win the batting title? (He's currently third at .317.) Lastly, the Cubs could keep the Cardinals from making the playoffs. Wouldn't that be awesome?

Caray, That Weight
Did Cubs Ruin the Memory of Harry Caray?
So a few blogs are upset that owner Tom Ricketts donned oversized glasses and cracked a Budweiser at the re-dedication of the Harry Caray statue on Wednesday. "We're embarrassed for Tom Ricketts," one blog intoned. Another wagged its finger and said, "the Cubs decided to take Harry Caray's contribution to baseball and to this franchise and condense it down to beer, glasses and the 7th inning stretch." Ummm, can we just remind people of some of the commercials that Harry made? Or the way other people saw him? Was Ricketts trying a bit too hard? Maybe, but we don't get the big fuss here.

The Blame Game
Blog: Hendry Still Here to Act as Scapegoat
Many people wonder why Jim Hendry still has a job after this season. Tales from Aisle 424 has a theory: To absorb the blame for the team's woeful performance. "They need someone to throw to the masses, so it might as well be Hendry," the idea goes. Yes, this year has been b-r-u-t-a-l. But Hendry also put together the teams that made it to the playoffs in three of the last seven years, and came five outs away fr... well, you know. We're not saying he's a savant, but let's not get too crazy.

The Maine Event
Cubs' Reliever Survived Horrific Accident 5 Years Ago
Simply put, Cubs' reliever Scott Maine is lucky to be alive. He had a terrible car accident in Florida five years ago, ending up hospitalized for 22 days and getting seven titanium rivets inserted into his skull. Incredibly, he pitched for the Miami Hurricanes that same year, earning their only win in the College World Series. The Cubs got him last season in a trade for Aaron Heilman, and he struck out 47 in 41 innings for the Iowa Cubs. Welcome to the bigs, Scott.

Listening In
A Peek at the Hendry/Ricketts Managerial Conversation
We've heard all sorts of speculation about who the Cubs are going to pick for the next manager. But how's it really going to go down when Hendry tells Ricketts his decision? The blog Cubbie Doctor's Examiner plays out that meeting, to pretty funny effect. We won't give it away, but suffice it to say that Ricketts isn't as indifferent to the answer as he says he's going to be. And he doesn't like to be called "Tom." We like.

Tom Gorzelanny will miss at least one start due to an injured hand... ESPN's Jayson Stark picked his MLB award winners, and Starlin Castro wasn't in the top three for NL Rookie of the Year? What the?... It may be a holiday weekend, but the Cubs Fan Report will be publishing every day. Enjoy the final weekend of summer (and college football)!
