The More Things Change...
Big Renovation Coming to Wrigley Field?
Cubs Fan Report
Here's some big news: Season ticket holders (like us) got a survey from the Cubs last week, and it gave some strong clues about changes that might be coming to Wrigley Field. Cubbie Doctor's Examiner wrote about the survey, and it asked about everything from a video scoreboard to an "entertainment area" in right field to the long-rumored triangle building. There are also questions about several additional patios along the exterior upper deck, and an area called the "Marquee Club" that would feature larger seats and access to a private lounge. Are we crazy in thinking the Cubs beat reporters have missed a huge story — maybe because they don't pay for tickets? And you can even take the survey yourself now on the Cubs site.

Kerry, That Weight
Wood Might Be Back with Cubs
We don't like to say, "We told you so," but... the Yankees didn't pick up Kerry Wood's option, and guess who's interested? "A source familiar with the situation said Wood would be welcomed back to the Cubs organization if general manager Jim Hendry has enough money in the offseason," Bruce Levine reports. We know he's not exactly a new name, but the Cubs could always use bullpen help, and Wood looked awesome with the Yankees. Wood and his wife are making their primary home in Chicago now, Levine reports, so could it be a natural fit?

The Jackson 2 Could Be at Wrigley Next Year
A Bruce Levine chat? We're in. The in-the-know ESPN reporter says forget Cliff Lee or Carl Crawford — he doesn't know if the Cubs will have enough money to sign any free agents unless the team trades Kosuke Fukudome. That said, "they have to get a run producer" to replace Derrek Lee, Levine says. Also, the Cubs' two minor-league Jacksons, outfield stud Brett and pitcher Jay, could make next year's team. And he shoots down the "Tyler Colvin will be a star" theory: "20 HRs doesn't make you a full-time big-league player." Ouch.

Random Thoughts About the Cubs' Future
It's been a little while since the Cubs have lost played. So we were grateful to see Chicago Cubs Online give us a recap on current issues facing the team. For starters, Mike Quade still doesn't have a bench coach, and candidates include Pat Listach, Don Wakamatsu, and former Cub Gary Varsho (remember him? No?). Ryne Sandberg hasn't been offered any other jobs and still hasn't said whether he'll return to manage in Iowa. Also, rumors continue to swirl that the Cubs are trying to trade Carlos Zambrano.

Vitters Wants to Make the Team Next Year
Hopes were high when the Cubs tabbed Josh Vitters with the third pick in the 2007 draft. Unfortunately, the sweet-swinging third baseman has underwhelmed in the minors. But the Tribune says Vitters wants to make the big leagues next year so badly that he's been playing some first base. Vitters, who suffered a broken hand this season, has never been a wizard with the leather — he made 18 errors in 79 games in Class-A and Double-AA, which is, you know, not good. But we've waited this long, we'll give him another chance.
